An overview of a free and opensource Chartplotter and GPS Navigation Software
OpenCPN is an opensource Chartplotter and GPS Navigation Software.
The really good thing about OpenCPN is that it is cross platform so it can be installed on most computers, the other really big plus is its free!
It can be used to display a good number of diffident chart formats BSBv3 raster and S57 ENC are supported you can also use Cmap charts and pilot charts for passage planing. It comes with a very simple base map of the world as you can see in this screen shot of OpenCPN running in Ubuntu 10.10
